Let's have a collective shout-out for Peyton Manning, OK? I mean, every year fantasy owners look for reasons to draft a disappointing running back over him, and every year he puts up terrific numbers. Sure, it took a bit longer than many would have liked in 2008, but he still ended up with big-time stats. This year, the debate raged about Tom Brady versus Drew Brees in the top quarterback spot, but both went in the first round of many leagues' drafts. Where was Manning? Oh yeah, he was getting pushed to Round 3. I don't have a good reason for this. His stock always seems to be merely average on draft day, and a month into the season, when he's leading the league in fantasy points -- as he is now, by 14 over Ben Roethlisberger -- you say to yourself, why did I take Clinton Portis in Round 2?
Nobody will admit Manning's stock is rising, because we expect this. Only, many didn't on draft day. It doesn't make sense. Anyway, here are some ups and downs when it comes to fantasy football stock heading into Week 6.
