I remember how excited fantasy footballers everywhere got when the Detroit Lions traded Roy E. Williams to the Dallas Cowboys last year. I was cautious, probably too cautious for most at the time, but hey, at least I didn't get burned trading someone important to acquire Williams.
Good thing, too, because he was awful. The question at the time was, How would Williams, a very talented yet at times troubled wide receiver, do in a big football market after coming in midseason to play with Tony Romo and Terrell Owens? Would he make a big impact?
One might say Braylon Edwards is in a similar situation. Of course he's talented; like Williams, Edwards is a tall, speedy burner who can make big plays deep. Edwards has put up huge numbers in his career -- when he's wanted to. And I do think Edwards, who on Wednesday was traded to the New York Jets for Chansi Stuckey, a linebacker and draft picks, will work out better posttrade for this season than Williams did last season in Dallas. But I certainly wouldn't go out and trade a ton to get him.
