As I wrote about poor, misunderstood Terrell Owens in Monday's blog, I realized how much perception plays a role in fantasy football. A player gets to a certain level of success, and whether he sustains it or not, it's going to be tough to convince many people that the perception is wrong. Tom Brady didn't play so well the first two weeks of the season, and there were probably some fantasy owners who basically decided it didn't matter because they would never, ever bench him. Is that perception or misplaced trust?
Brady looked much better in Week 3, and Owens still will have noteworthy performances this season, but now that September football is over, there remain players who have emerged so far the first three weeks that fantasy owners seem to be slow on trusting. Sure, the perception on Cedric Benson, Julius Jones and Willis McGahee might not have been very good back in August, but fantasy owners need to roll with the changes. They're relevant now.
