Week 1 Mailbag: Boldin, Beanie, balance

Everyone's got questions, especially with the season only a day away. That's what chats are for! I host a weekly chat each Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN.com and try to get to as many of your questions as possible. Here is the link to Wednesday's session. To remind you of this special event each week, I'll check into my mailbag and answer questions each Wednesday morning. I'll tell you right now, the goal here is to entertain and inform as many readers as I can, so if your query is something so specific to only your team that it wouldn't interest anyone else, chances are that question won't appear here.

Brian (Chicago): Would you trade Anquan Boldin for Thomas Jones or Ronnie Brown? Currently my starting running backs are Brandon Jacobs and Willie Parker. I know you wrote not to quit on Fast Willie yet, but will he make a valid No. 2 RB this year? My top wide receiver is Andre Johnson and I also have Bernard Berrian and Lance Moore. Thanks.

Eric: I think the best player in that deal is Boldin, and not only because he's being selected before those running backs in most drafts. He makes the bigger impact, and we shouldn't view depth at wide receiver as less important than that of running backs. I think Parker will be as valuable as Jones and Brown. I don't know how many running backs and wide receivers you can play each week, but Andre Johnson plus Boldin is really nice, and one can never have enough depth. Even though I really like Berrian now that Brett Favre is throwing to him, I'd stay with Boldin unless you get a better offer.
