Favre as fantasy starter isn't ridiculous

I believe there are three obvious yet flawed reasons fantasy owners would avoid Brett Favre in their drafts the next few weeks. First, they think he's too old, not for a normal person, but for an NFL quarterback. Second, he led the world in interceptions last season, especially for a normal person. And third, no saga was more annoying this summer, except maybe the ongoing Jon and Kate thing. And they're not normal. Well, so I've heard, anyway.

None of these reasons convinces me Favre can't make a strong fantasy football backup, if not considerably more. In fact, in 12-team formats, he's my last starter.

Favre wasn't a great fantasy quarterback for the sum of 2008, but for a few months, he certainly was serviceable, a near-top-10 option. He managed to finish 16th in standard fantasy points at his position, which clearly is backup territory, and he accomplished this despite offering very little the final five weeks of the season, which also was when his arm clearly was hurting. I think his arm is just fine now, or good enough, and he'll finish considerably better than 16th in fantasy points for quarterbacks.
