Congrats to the Milwaukee Brewers for winning the CC Sabathia sweepstakes. Of course, acquiring the portly southpaw doesn't guarantee a playoff berth, but it certainly increased the chances, and it's always nice to see a team with a payroll of less than $100 million making moves.
On the other side, I had the chance to watch power-hitting prospect Matt LaPorta at the Arizona Fall League in 2007, and I've studied his numbers since the Brewers made him a first-round draft pick. The guy can hit -- this isn't breaking news. The Indians did well here, considering they had very little shot of signing Sabathia long-term anyway.
It's not a fun day to be an Indians fan. Nobody likes to lose. Rebuilding stinks. Last fall, the Indians were one game from the World Series. Now they're in last place, behind even the Kansas City Royals. Fantasy owners have thrown many a dart in the direction of the Indians logo this season, as one by one the Indians we were counting on became unusable, either by injury or performance. It happens. It's just hard to believe it happened this quickly to this team.
