Week 16 wrap: Maroney breaks through

Tom Brady will make NFL history and win the league's MVP award. Randy Moss could end up with the most touchdowns a wide receiver has ever had in a season. The Patriots will set marks for scoring and domination, and everyone knows about coach Bill Belichick, his style, his words, his faults and even his wardrobe.

What do we really know about Laurence Maroney? This much maligned fella could end up being the key to not only the Pats winning another Super Bowl, but you, the fantasy owner, winning the ultimate prize.

I admit I haven't been a Maroney fan for, oh, about 15 of the 16 weeks of 2007. I didn't think he ran with passion or found the right spots to attack, labeled him as soft and unable to stay on the field, and couldn't understand why someone so talented never got much of a role on this team, and on and on. Think about it, Maroney hasn't been much of a factor in this historic run. Every other member of the Patriots was scoring, including a linebacker, but not him. Even when Maroney finally, mercifully scored in Weeks 11 and 12, we scoffed since he had totaled 50 yards in those wins.
