We never root for injuries in fantasy, of course, but when they happen, we must always be prepared. A guy gets hurt and some owners don't act quickly enough on the replacement. Sometimes we don't know who the new guy will be, like with the current Houston point-guard situation. Or sometimes we think the guys filling in just won't be worth anything, like with the Spurs and Tim Duncan missing time. Phew, he's back now.
Jose Calderon doesn't fall into either of those classes.
We knew he was the backup point guard to T.J. Ford in Toronto, and we knew he was good. And when Ford took a nasty spill less than a week ago -- after my concern for Ford's well-being had been assuaged by the positive medical reports -- it was pretty obvious Calderon was the big statistical winner. The thing is, Ford will be back at some point, and he'll go back to the starting lineup. What does this mean for Calderon? Fewer assists, obviously, but he's a guy to keep around.
