One should never flat-out dismiss a player or team because sometimes, as humans tend to do, they or it will do something shocking, like play well. This seems to happen more around draft time, as in someone replying to a question by noting they'll never draft Carnell Williams, as I was heard uttering back in July. Does it really mean I won't draft him, or I won't like him early enough in the draft to get him? Never is a pretty strong word. Randy Moss, Vince Young and Reggie Bush fit the bill of players who, back in August, also tended to be either a bit too loved or hated by fantasy owners.
Now we're settling in for Week 8, and I thought I'd do a little update on players who are still eliciting a strong range of emotions, either that you refuse to recognize their greatness and keep ignoring them, or you blindly keep them in starting lineups when there's little earthly reason to. Way back in Week 2, your Derek Anderson pickup probably made your league mates laugh. Um, now that he's the No. 8 player in fantasy for the season, and has one fewer point than some guy named Peyton, you could care less who chuckled at your signing. But how long did it take for that move to look good? Jesse Chatman is probably in a similar boat this week. Jesse Chatman? Who'd want him? Watch when he's the new Frank Gore in a month. (Just kidding. Well, I think I'm kidding.)
