Don't look now, but that was another quarterback biting the dust. Marc Bulger is suddenly an unwanted fantasy option, having been benched by the Rams this week for Gus Frerotte. Blame it on broken ribs or poor performance, but whatever it is, this was a fantasy starter a month ago. So was Donovan McNabb, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, Jake Delhomme and, in some leagues, Rex Grossman and J.P. Losman.
Hey, not everyone can own Tom Brady, Tony Romo and Brett Favre, the darlings of fantasy quarterback play. In fact, when I was doing my quarterback rankings for this Week 5 (the preliminary ones that showed up on the site Wednesday), I decided this was really not the week to have to use two signal-callers. With the lack of safe depth, is there ever going to be a good week?
You try winning a fantasy league without a quality quarterback. It's not easy. Then again, the running back position isn't exactly swimming with safe options, either. Ronnie Brown did nothing the first two weeks; now he's easily the No. 1 running back statistically after coming back with two good weeks. That didn't take long and didn't take much, but we spend a lot more time talking about disappointments and underwhelming performers than highlighting the good.
