Karabell: Trade winners, losers

From a fantasy baseball aspect, it's a good day to be named Joakim. Or Joaquin. Other than that, there weren't that many clear-cut winners ready to carry fantasy baseballers to championships on a busy trade deadline day.

Let's discuss what happened.

Wilson Betemit to the Yankees for Scott Proctor: I love this move for the Yankees, but only if Betemit is given the chance at regular playing time. Yes, I had Betemit pegged as a big sleeper this March, figuring an everyday job would result in at least 20 home runs. Betemit is third base eligible, and in some leagues he has retained his middle infield status from 2006, but the reason I liked him -- and still do -- is because he can flat-out hit. Didn't Dodgers manager Grady Little once compare Betemit's power to that of David Ortiz? Um, yes he did. Let's not go that far, but I do think Betemit has legit power.
