In-state success

Here are three quick notes about Mississippi State's recruiting class.

In-state success: Led by veteran recruiting coordinator Tony Hughes -- who has longtime, deep ties to the Magnolia State -- the Bulldogs have done an excellent job recruiting in-state thus far in this recruiting cycle. Four-star athletes Michael Carr (West Point, Miss./West Point South) and Brandon Hill (Columbus, Miss./West Lowndes) are two highly-rated local talents that the Bulldogs snagged.

Strength in versatility: When you add junior college transfer Rashod Henry (Lumberton, Miss./Pearl River CC), Antwon Chisholm (Belle Glade, Fla./Glades Central) and Jameon Lewis (Tylertown, Miss./Tylertown) to Carr and Hill, that gives the Bulldogs five players listed as "athletes". That's a positive because these players are versatile enough to play multiple positions and can contribute to the overall boost of athleticism on the roster.

Looking ahead: The Bulldogs will need to hold off Florida State and the other in-state programs for wide receiver Vincent Sanders (Macon, Miss./Noxubee County) and they are in a battle for wide receiver/athlete Robert Johnson (Hattiesburg, Miss./Oak Grove). It looks like it's going to be a very good second recruiting class for Hughes and head coach Dan Mullen in Starkville. There is a good buzz among prospects about this program now and continued success in recruiting will only reinforce that.
