Here are three quick notes about Vanderbilt's recruiting class.
Best class yet: On the heels of a 7-6 season and a win in the Music City Bowl in 2008, the Commodores have assembled what is, on paper, their best class of the Bobby Johnson era. What makes it so on paper is that Vanderbilt has beaten out other SEC programs on players, whereas in the past that wasn't always the case. This staff has been together for a long time in Nashville and is yet another example of how stability trumps all at times in recruiting.
Gold in Georgia: Of Vanderbilt's 21 commitments, 10 hail from the state of Georgia, including two-way lineman
Kyle Woestmann (Marietta, Ga./Walton), speedy receiver
Bradley Roby (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) and safety
Kenneth Ladler (Stone Mountain, Ga./Stephenson). All three have high-level SEC potential and should be early contributors in Nashville. Roby and Ladler have both discussed taking other visits, so the Commodores could have a battle to hold onto them, but that's recruiting.
Looking ahead: Vanderbilt suffered through an injury-plagued 2-10 season, in which they played a slew of young players, including SEC Freshman of the Year candidate
Warren Norman. With that, the Commodores were still competitive in most contests and fought hard until the final whistle. There is young talent on this team and hanging on to this recruiting class and stacking it on top of what is already there should bring the Commodores back quickly.
