LSU has advantage of Texas talent

Here are three quick notes about LSU's recruiting class.

Down the stretch: The Tigers don't have very many spots left in their 2010 class, but would like to sign another running back. ESPNU 150 prospect Lache Seastrunk (Temple, Texas/Temple) is one possibility, though USC seems to be the team to beat at this point. In-state big back Alfred Blue (Hahnville, La./Hahnville) is a take (someone the Tigers will accept a commitment from) and will probably end up being the state's leading rusher this year. LSU also really likes Jakhari Gore (Miami, Fla./Columbus) and Gore, the nephew of San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore, is high on the Tigers as well.

Future watch: While LSU always signs a high-level class of recruits (No. 6 in the ESPN.com class rankings for 2010), the Class of 2011 could be a banner year given the in-state talent. Running back Jeremy Hill (Baton Rouge, La./Redemptorist) and offensive tackle La'El Collins (Baton Rouge, La./Redemptorist) have already committed. ESPNU 150 Watch List receiver Jarvis Landry (Lutcher, La./Lutcher), among others is also an elite player that is considered an early LSU lean.

Texas gold: The Tigers continue to be a major presence in the Lone Star state and have shown the ability to defeat major players in that state, like Oklahoma and Texas A&M (the Texas Longhorns still sign most of the in-state players they want). The Tigers currently are the only team in the SEC with a legitimate shot at elite Texas talent. That's a serious advantage when you already are in a loaded state, like Louisiana.
