Sherm Lewis wasn't necessarily the first choice to be Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn's consultant and eventual offensive coordinator. According to a source, Zorn reached out to former Seahawks offensive coordinator Gil Haskell to help. For family reasons, Haskell had to wait a few extra days before he could aid the Redskins. Lewis was available immediately and arrived a few days after contacted. The organization was comfortable with both options. Now, it's Lewis' job to turn around an offense that is getting worse instead of better.
End of road for Johnson: As much as the
Kansas City Chiefs and head coach Todd Haley aren't calling what they are doing to
Larry Johnson as a suspension, it's pretty clear they are either going to suspend him or release him. The Chiefs issued a statement Tuesday that Johnson isn't going to be with them until the team and the league figure out their investigation of off-color slurs Johnson made in the locker room Monday and allegedly made Sunday night on Twitter. Tailback
Jamaal Charles handled most of the first-team snaps Tuesday in practice, and Haley, who hasn't given Charles a lot of opportunities, has started to publicly embrace him and the way he practices and plays. After this season, Johnson has $22.5 million on his contract remaining for the next three seasons, and his 2009 base salary is $4.55 million. His Kansas City days might be over.
Stafford returns to practice: Detroit Lions quarterback
Matthew Stafford was on the practice field Tuesday trying to test out his problematic knee cap. Two weeks ago on a Wednesday, Stafford handled half the snaps in practice and had to shut it down for the week. If the knee holds up, he has a chance to play against the
St. Louis Rams. Apparently, if surgery is going to be needed, Stafford wants to try to play first and then have an operation later. Wide receiver
Calvin Johnson did not practice Tuesday and remains a question mark.
