Giovanni Bernard (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Saint Thomas Aquinas) committed to Notre Dame on Sunday. The Irish topped a host of other programs for his services.
While many were surprised at the decision, it's isn't a big surprise to me personally. Bernard played things close to the vest during interviews, but there always was a Notre Dame feel with him. Yes, Florida State was often considered the favorite. And he took visits to Tennessee and Oregon State. And yes, many of the nation's best programs, including Alabama and Oklahoma, were chasing the 5-foot-9, 195-pound back. But when you look at Bernard and look at the Irish program, it seems like a natural fit. He visited South Bend officially on the weekend of Oct. 17 when Notre Dame played host to Southern California.
