Senior running back Traylon Shead (Cayuga, Texas/Cayuga) began the season with a shot to break Sugar Land, Texas runner Kenneth Hall's long-standing record of 11,232 yards in a season. However, a high ankle sprain and a cancelled game due to lightning have derailed his chance to break the record that has stood since 1953, but the Texas commit is still racing up the charts.

On Friday, the 6-foot-2, 210-pounder rushed for 269 yards and six touchdowns moving into second place on Texas' rushing list with 8,885 yards. Shead began the season with more than 35 names in front of him on the national career rushing record list, but is now only looking up at nine names.
