Monday afternoon quick hitters.

• Our good friends at EyeontheTigers.com (LSU) say that LSU has been informed that the Tigers are in the top three for ESPNU150 defensive lineman J.R. Ferguson (Frederick Md./Hargrave Military). The Tigers, Notre Dame and Oklahoma are the teams to beat. We've been hearing Miami is in the mix as well, so those four teams are the safe bets at this point.

• It should come as no surprise that highly-regarded offensive tackle T.J. Leifheit (Wilmington, N.C./Hoggard) committed to North Carolina. The Tar Heels have been the team to beat since day one and one source said way back in the spring he would be shocked to see him end up anywhere else. More importantly, this gives UNC two outstanding offensive linemen thus far in the 2010 class. Under Armour All-American James Hurst (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) was an early commit. Both prospects cited North Carolina offensive line coach Sam Pittman as a big reason for their decisions. Multiple prospects considering the Heels have praised Pittman's ability to develop relationships with prospects.

• South Carolina has taken the lead for two top juniors, tight end Drew Owens (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) and defensive tackle Phillip Dukes (Manning, S.C./Manning) after both made unofficial visits to Columbia for the Gamecocks' 28-26 win against Kentucky this past weekend, ESPN affiliate TheBigSpur.com reports.
