Week 6 College Football Point Spread Moves

Know why I love writing about betting? It's the language. Wise guys, sharps, squares, the public. Every time I talk to a bookmaker or a pro it's like I'm listening to people act out a scene from a Damon Runyon play.

Yesterday I called Southpoint boss Bert Osborne to talk about the big line moves for college football heading into the weekend. Bert grew up in Pittsburgh and moved to Vegas 25 years ago to make book because he had some friends in the business. Now he's running point for eight different sports books, including The Palms.

    Chad first joined ESPN The Magazine as an editor in 1998. A year later he left to write "The Odds" -- about a trio of Vegas bookmakers and wise guys -- and to find riches working for an Internet company. He made tens of dollars on "The Odds," and the web biz tanked. So he returned to The Mag, where he is now a senior deputy editor.
