After months of strained negotiations with several teams, prized shortstop prospect
Miguel Angel Sano appears to have
come to terms on a $3.15 million deal with the
Minnesota Twins.
Initially, the
Pittsburgh Pirates appeared to be the front-runners for Sano, but a strained relationship between Sano's family, agent
Rob Plummer and the team apparently nixed the deal. Sano was to be the crowning jewel in a renewed Pirates commitment in Latin America. Instead, the failed deal leaves their new recruitment strategy bereft of a big prospect.
Plummer, who has negotiated some of the biggest bonuses in Latin America, can claim another victory.
