Time to make some picks

I had a shaky Week 2 going 9-9 against the line, keeping me one-under .500 for the early season. The good: picking Houston to give Oklahoma State fits. The bad: picking Notre Dame to beat Michigan. The ugly: picking Colorado to handle Toledo. Here are this week's picks for what I've dubbed "Revenge Week":

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Miami Hurricanes (7:30 p.m. ET Thursday, ESPN)

Last year, Tech ran all over Miami. The Canes' defense is more experienced and stronger now in the back seven. That will help. Then again, Tech should be much sharper running Paul Johnson's triple option in Year 2. Miami has speed on offense, though, which will give the Jackets fits. UM's D wasn't great against FSU in the opener, but it did do a decent job of containing the Seminoles on first-down runs, limiting them to three yards or less on 10 of 14 dashes in those situations. That run defense will be key in trying to make Tech QB Josh Nesbitt win the game with his arm. Look for Jacory Harris and Miami's offense to ride the home-field edge to a close win. The Canes are 13-2 on the Thursday Night Special games -- but of course, one of those two losses was last year's rout against Tech. The pick is Miami 34, Georgia Tech 31.
