Three Strikes: September drama edition

We flipped the calendar to September this morning, and you know what that means.

No, not the return of Cris Collinsworth to a flat screen near you. We're talking about the return of that heart-thumping stretch-drive drama that makes September baseball the heart-thumping attraction it is.

But not all that drama is in the standings. You can find other dramas, little dramas, in places you never thought to look. Here at Three Strikes, we'll be zeroing in on those other dramas all month. So feel free to send your own favorites to uselessinfodept@yahoo.com.

In the meantime, though, here are three classics to get us all started:

STRIKE ONE -- SHEFFIELD VS. BASHING BARRETT

As loyal reader Dave Letzler points out, the Mets' home run leader for this horror flick of a season is a guy who was supposed to make it into the lineup only about once a week -- Gary Sheffield.
