• Since I was deluged by questions about Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park, let's take a look at the astounding series by the Phillies' pitching staff against Arizona. First off, Phillies pitchers went through the entire series without issuing a walk. According to Baseball-Reference.com's amazing Play Index, it's only the second time in the past 23 years that any National League team made it through a whole three-game series without walking a hitter. The other: May 6-8, 1996, when the Braves did it against the Rockies, in games started by Steve Avery,
Greg Maddux and
Tom Glavine.
• Last time a Phillies team did that: June 4-6, 1976, against the Giants, in games started by Jim Lonborg, Steve Carlton and Jim Kaat.
