Expect no team to consider signing former Falcons quarterback Michael Vick until he has his meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell to find out whether he will be reinstated in 2009. Phones are quiet for Vick at the moment. The 49ers, Seahawks, Saints and Rams have said they don't have plans to sign him. His agent, Joel Segal, said Vick's spirits are good and he expected his release from the Falcons.
Plax's gamble: If
Plaxico Burress' gun case is adjourned until next year, it creates an interesting decision for commissioner Roger Goodell. The league likes to wait for a gun case to be resolved before ruling whether the involved player is going to be suspended. If that is the case, Burress is gambling he is going to be able to play 16 games this season. His gamble could be a big one, though. He might have been able to get a three-month sentence and serve the jail term in 2010 had he taken a plea bargain agreement earlier this year. If the case goes to trial and Burress loses, he could serve much longer than three months.
Eye on McNabb's deal: You can see that
Donovan McNabb and the Eagles must be thinking about a possible NFL lockout in 2011. The Eagles gave McNabb a $5.3 million raise over the next two seasons, but they didn't extend his contract, figuring they would worry about the 2011 season if there is a 2011 season. Interesting premise.
No doubts on Favre: If you had any doubt about
Brett Favre playing this season, the doubts ended when ESPN reported a Vikings coach and team trainer will go to Mississippi to work with him. Favre won't sign a contract soon. That will probably happen in mid-July. The only question is whether he's going to be healthy enough to play.
