As the super regionals get under way Friday, clubs will continue working out potential draftees while having frequent and lengthy discussions about their plan for next week's draft. This time last year, Tampa was putting the finishing touches on its choice as the No. 1 pick, ultimately SS Tim Beckham from Griffin, Ga., over Florida State C Buster Posey. Pittsburgh honed in on Vanderbilt 3B Pedro Alvarez, and Kansas City and Baltimore had a really good idea that they were going to take 1B Eric Hosmer and LHP Brian Matusz at Nos. 3 and 4.
