Edgerrin James' push to be released shouldn't come as a surprise. Being limited to three carries in three games has to be hard for a running back who is eight yards short of 12,000 for his career and is missing out on a chance to both help his team win and enhance his chances of making the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Drew Rosenhaus, James' agent, tried to talk Cardinals general manager Rod Graves into releasing his client next year because it's pretty clear James won't be back after the season.
James is scheduled to make $3.5 million in 2009, the final year of his four-year, $30 million contract.
Ken Whisenhunt has gone to a
Kurt Warner passing offense, and he likes rookie
Tim Hightower more than James because of Hightower's explosiveness. Even though the Cardinals rejected James' request, Rosenhaus is making his early push to find a new home for James. He was averaging 83.6 yards a game before losing playing time. James' days in Arizona are just about over, but it appears he will have to spend the rest of the season there.
Oakland unrest: The latest Raider to become upset is running back
Michael Bush. He is furious interim coach
Tom Cable has moved him to fullback. Bush, a big back, wants to stay at halfback, but Cable made it clear to him that the only way Bush would play now is at fullback,. Wide receiver
Ronald Curry was upset when he was demoted and later deactivated for a game. Cable has been trying to shake up the roster to improve the performance of his 2-8 team. He has demoted offensive coordinator
Greg Knapp by taking away his play-calling duties. Cable has benched safety
Michael Huff. He has challenged left tackle
Kwame Harris by having
Mario Henderson take playing time away from him until Henderson performed poorly last week. Harris will stay the starter. Cable is trying, but he's not afraid to step on a few toes along the way.
