Call it butterfly season

It is election season, and incumbent Mike Victorino is running, again, for a Maui County Council seat. But as it turns out, Victorino is running unopposed, so after he sat in Miller Park and watched his son Shane share in the Phillies' playoff victory over the Brewers on Sunday, he changed his plans. Rather than return to Hawaii, Mike Victorino will stay with the Phillies as they open the National League Championship Series against the Dodgers on Thursday.

If you have a chance to share in the playoffs, you don't take that for granted. "The players [who have been there] say that it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience," Shane Victorino said Monday night. "Unless you're Derek Jeter, I guess."

Even Jeter is finding out what it's like to be home in October and probably thinks about what he's missing. This is Victorino's second time in the playoffs, and what he has found is that this postseason feels very much like the first. "The adrenaline is still there," he said. "I feel butterflies before every game, the same way that I did last year. You're excited, there's a vibe in the air, the crowds are great. The butterflies are there for every at-bat."
