My initial reaction to the Ned Yost firing? This has never happened. In 1978, Billy Martin was forced to resign on July 24, and the Yankees eventually mounted one of the great comebacks in baseball history. But Martin wasn't forced out to improve the team; he was forced out because he'd said of Reggie Jackson and George Steinbrenner, "One's a born liar; the other's convicted." When Martin resigned, the Yankees had just won five straight games.
