Boras faces heavy deadline workload

If you're a client of Scott Boras and you're uncomfortable with the game of chicken in negotiations that will either take you into pro ball or perhaps over the cliff of uncertainty, you might want to get him on the phone well before Friday night's midnight ET deadline, because he'll be juggling a lot of futures.

Boras has at least four unsigned top picks: No. 2 overall pick Pedro Alvarez, selected by Pittsburgh; No. 3 overall pick Eric Hosmer, taken by the Royals; Allan Dykstra, the No. 23 overall selection, picked by San Diego; and Gerrit Cole, the No. 28 overall pick, by the Yankees. Alvarez is still talking to the Pirates; they don't want to give Alvarez a major league contract, writes Dejan Kovacevic.

It's unclear whether the Royals will finish a deal with Hosmer, writes Bob Dutton.
