Wednesday, 6:20 p.m. ET -- Oscar immortalized
Oscar De La Hoya was informed at the news conference today that a life-size statue of him would be set up outside the Staples Center, alongside statues of Magic Johnson and Wayne Gretzky.
De La Hoya was genuinely surprised and moved by the news, telling reporters later with a smile that he would drive past every day, "to make sure it doesn't get egged. I'll be wiping it down with a towel every morning."
