Friday Filberts

Felix Pie is off to sort of a rough April. Now he's started just one game since the 10th, and in that one (Tuesday against the Reds) he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Anyway, now Uncle Lou's involved and there's no telling when we'll see Pie in the lineup again.

• Just to reiterate something I've written many times before ... when a baseball player lies about his birthday, it doesn't mean he's a bad guy. Players have been shaving years for at least a century -- thousands of players, and well before the first Dominican played in the majors -- and when so many guys are doing it, it's hard to argue that it's really so terrible. That doesn't mean it's "personal," though (as some guys will respond when asked). Like it or not, athletes' ages are an important piece of the equation ... and if they didn't believe that, they wouldn't have lied in the first place.

• Looks like the A's will be waiting until 2012 (at least) for their new ballpark in Fremont. I'm still waiting to find out what on earth they're going to call themselves once they're there.

• I suppose this might be in poor taste, but you're all big boys and girls, right? Plus, it's all in good fun. We kid the Yankees because we love them.

• The sabermetric community loses yet another shining light to those vultures in the front office, as Baseball Prospectus' Dan Fox is joining the Pirates. Good luck, trusted scout. And you're always welcome to rejoin us out here in the frontier.

• In light of C.C. Sabathia's struggles, ShysterBall points out that Sabathia wouldn't be the first Cy Young hangover sufferer.

• When Joe Posnanski was a kid, his favorite player was Duane Kuiper. And no, not ironically.
