Every year Michigan State is a terrific defensive team for two reasons: The Spartans play good team defense, and they have good individual defenders that do an excellent job guarding the ball.
In their first game of the NCAA tournament, they beat a Temple team that had won seven games in a row and had just won the A-10 tournament title. Temple has one of the best scorers in the A-10 in Dionte Christmas, who came into the Michigan State game averaging 19.7 points a game. The Spartans' great individual defense held him to 3 points on 1 of 12 from the field.
