Smarter not really better for Royals

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I used to write about the Royals semi-regularly in a different space, aided and abetted by a young man named Rany Jazayerli.

OK, so it was just last month. And Rany's not actually all that young. But it seems like a long time ago and Rany's young compared to me. Anyway, Rany's finally found his destiny, writing regularly and lengthily about his favorite team, all by himself (in addition to being a doctor and a father and writing for Baseball Prospectus; the guy's got more energy than anybody I know this side of Maury Brown).

Lately, Rany's been running through 25 reasons (I think it's 25) the Royals will contend in 2008. They're all worth reading, but today I'd like to focus on No. 10: The Money. As in, the money doesn't separate poor teams from rich teams nearly as much as it did just a few years ago. Rany:
