Nix creates an opportunity

Jayson Nix played six seasons in the minor leagues without reaching the big leagues, his offensive production holding him back. So last year, playing for Triple-A Colorado Springs, he altered his approach at the plate dramatically. Rather than placing the bat on his right shoulder as he prepared to hit, Nix held the bat aloft, a little further away from his body. He reduced the distance between his feet, "narrowing it up a bit." And he added a leg kick, which he tries to begin as the pitcher begins his delivery.

"I was really just kind of trying to find a comfort zone," Nix said earlier this week. "I just wanted to be able to have a better chance of repeating a good swing, and being more consistent."
