He hit in the cages early that morning, then sat through a Major League Baseball security meeting. Between that and the team's 10 a.m. workout, Gabe Kapler ate his breakfast snack: a couple of soft-boiled eggs, a whole-grain English muffin with organic almond butter.
Kapler has been a phenom, he has been to Japan and back, he has won a World Series ring as perhaps the most respected teammate of the 2004 Red Sox. Last year, he managed a minor league team in Greenville, S.C.
Now, at 32 years old, he is trying to make a comeback with the Brewers. "I couldn't get it out of my system," Kapler says.
