Shays not sure players will testify

All things considered, U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.) -- a member of the committee that will question Bud Selig, Don Fehr and George Mitchell on Tuesday -- would prefer that players like Roger Clemens are not called to testify, and Shays thinks there's a chance that players won't testify.

"I don't want to see the players come in and lie to us," he said, before correcting himself. "'Lie' is too strong of a word. I don't want to see them come in and not be truthful."

What he hopes is that players who used performance-enhancing drugs would simply say that they did things that were embarrassing, to ask for a stronger PED standard, to say that they'd made mistakes, and explain why performance-enhancing drugs are a danger. Shays does not see a lot of upside for his committee members to become the umpires in every he-said, he-said dispute.
