McKnight the next Reggie Bush?

The No. 1 rule in the press box is no cheering. But I think all of us would be lying if we said there has never been a time when, deep inside, we were pulling for someone involved in the game we were watching. Last night at the Rose Bowl, I had one of those moments as Joe McKnight ran wild for the USC Trojans.

The story I wrote for ESPN.com last night was about McKnight's breakthrough, and why he and the Trojans' coaches were so excited about it. In retrospect, I think it might be apt to say they were relieved about it.

I spent a decent amount of time around McKnight for my recruiting book, "Meat Market." The Ole Miss staff had identified the Louisiana tailback-receiver-returner as the top prospect in his class way back when he was a sophomore, so their pursuit of McKnight was a big part of the book.
