No Beckett on three days' rest

I might have been the only one in Fenway Park last night who felt sorry for the Colorado Rockies.

Jeff Francis is a good pitcher. Not a great pitcher. Not yet. But a good one. In nearly 13 postseason innings this month, he'd given up only three runs and won both his starts.

Last night he gave up three runs in the first inning. His second pitch was smacked into the Monster seats. His sixth pitch was smacked into the gap in right-center field. He needed 30 pitches to escape the first inning. He needed 27 more to escape the second.
