Here are some notes on the most interesting players in the Arizona Fall League this year:
•
Evan Longoria (Devil Rays) can really play. He hit a ball clear out of Phoenix Municipal Stadium on Friday night, his second homer in as many nights, and looks like the new
David Wright. His defense at third base is outstanding. He has good range in both directions, great hands, and plus arm strength and accuracy. At the plate, his load is a little deep, but he more than makes up for it with quick wrists and a very short path to the ball. He's going to hit for average and power, get on base and play Gold Glove defense. He's the early leader for AL Rookie of the Year in 2008.
• Longoria's AFL teammate,
Travis Snider (Blue Jays), is one of the youngest players in Arizona at 19 years old, but he's shown he can hang with the big boys. Snider has an outstanding approach at the plate. With a simple swing and ideal load, he will hit for big power down the road. He's already driving balls to both gaps, is a slightly above-average runner and has a plus right-field arm.
