I first met Isiah Thomas the summer before I entered seventh grade. Actually, I didn't meet him; I was just in his presence. He had just finished a terrific freshman season at Indiana, and I was attending Bobby Knight's basketball camp on the Bloomington campus. Isiah, as soft-spoken as he is now, came to speak to us one day, telling us about the importance of education and how he'd stay in school to graduate rather than leave early for the NBA.
