Holcomb trade a no-brainer

The Kelly Holcomb trade to Minnesota was inevitable. The Vikings had been talking all summer to the Eagles about Holcomb in case things didn't work out in the exhibition season with Tarvaris Jackson and Brooks Bollinger.

Jackson looked a little better than expected in three preseason games. Bollinger didn't look that good, particularly in the Seattle game. So Brad Childress had to make the move to offer a sixth-rounder for Holcomb. In many ways, it was a no-brainer. Holcomb doesn't complain about his status and has no problem backing up Jackson. If needed, he could start if Jackson has as much trouble handling the blitz in regular-season games. That was a big problem in his limited exposure in the league last year.

Searching for answers: Face it, Michael Strahan doesn't really know what to do this season. The reason he hasn't decided whether or not to retire is because nothing changed his mind about going back to the Giants. Most of his friends thought he would miss camp and then show up once the Giants started preparing for the regular season at the team headquarters. At this late date, Strahan still doesn't know the right move to make, slanting the odds to retirement instead of playing this season. His heart isn't up to playing for what might be a losing team in New York even if his salary is $4 million. Strahan will reach out to the Giants at some point this week, but there isn't any clear day to do that. Strahan doesn't have an answer yet.
