Colts defensive line in trouble

The loss of defensive tackle Anthony McFarland to a season-ending knee injury earlier this week could be a major stumbling block on the Colts' road back to the Super Bowl. Indianapolis took a gamble when it released tackles Montae Reagor and Corey Simon earlier in the preseason, and the Colts are now in a scary position as they try to fill the void along their defensive line.

Raheem Brock started all 16 games last season and made 48 total tackles and will be counted on at one of the two defensive tackle spots, leaving either third-year man Darrell Reid, an adequate backup last season, or rookie Quinn Pitcock as the other starting tackle.

Reid played well in spurts last season and Pitcock was a quality starter at Ohio State. With the lack of bulk along the front, Pitcock (6-foot-3, 300 pounds) would seem to have the advantage over the lighter Brock. Neither would be considered an upgrade, though, for a defense that allowed a league-worst 173 rushing yards per game in 2006.
