DiMaggio's autograph stress

Joe DiMaggio's journal is for sale. I'd love to read his daily thoughts about, say, playing for Casey Stengel and consorting with Marilyn Monroe, but unfortunately this journal covers the Mr. Coffee years (and the later ones at that). As Richard Sandomir writes in the New York Times, "It is not a juicy personal journal." Occasionally, though, a bit of emotion pokes through the itineraries and expenses, as when "entries illustrate DiMaggio's frustrations with fans and current and former major leaguers who wanted his autograph." From Anaheim, Calif., on July 8, 1989, he wrote: "Swamped with the signing of baseballs -- pictures -- radio and TV. Stress too much."
