As the Kobe Bryant trade speculation saga has hit a lull over the past couple days, and as the Kevin Garnett machinations took the first of their many twists and turns, there's one unifying topic that merits further discussion:
That topic is leverage, and in both cases there is a lively debate over who holds it.
The spin coming out of Los Angeles during the middle part of this week made the case it's the Lakers who hold the leverage over Kobe, since they have him under contract for two more seasons before he can opt out of his deal and become an unrestricted free agent.
