Barrett not a big loss for Cubs
June, 21, 2007
From the Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer, here's the skinny on the Michael Barrett deal from the Cubs' perspective.
While some of the value in the move includes the fact that top catching prospect Geovany Soto is considered ready for the majors now -- confirmed after a recent scouting trip by team brass -- the deal was mostly about addition by the subtraction of Barrett.
Although well-liked personally by management and teammates, Barrett's Cubs career bottomed out in recent weeks with baserunning gaffes, mental and physical mistakes defensively and a dugout-to-clubhouse fight with [Carlos] Zambrano.
