Considering the A's are supposed to contend for another division title, their lack of an apparent everyday first baseman is verging on the bizarre.

First it was supposed to be Nick Swisher. Then it was Dan Johnson. But Johnson got hurt and is out for at least three months. So then it was Erubiel Durazo, but he got optioned out because the A's don't think he can handle the defensive responsibilities at the initial sack. Now there's talk about 34-year-old Todd Walker, who the A's signed immediately after he was released by the Padres.
