Kevin Curtis' six-year, $32 million agreement with the Eagles pretty much concludes the first major phase of free agency.
In two weeks, 133 players -- including 76 unrestricted free agents who moved to new teams -- are off the list, and the pace is still about five to 10 signings a day. Curtis was one of the last big names. Colts linebacker Cato June, Vikings wide receiver Travis Taylor and Bears defensive tackle Ian Scott still have a chance to get a big payday, but Curtis was one of the last players to get some good multi-team bidding. Four teams started the day trying to get Curtis. The Eagles and Vikings were in the final two, and the Eagles got him with $9.5 million in guarantees.
Johnson suspension looming: Tank Johnson should be able to play for the Bears this season, but he will most likely get some kind of a league suspension, possibly for a game or two. Though Johnson was sentenced to four months in jail, he will serve around 60 days because there is a one-for-one credit for days served. Johnson, the Bears defensive tackle, was taken to jail immediately. He'll miss a mincamp but should be available for training camp. At some point, though, the league will impose a suspension because the case involved a gun-related problem.
