Strong deals for Blues, Flyers

In case you were wondering, Thrashers GM Don Waddell had been working on the deal to acquire forward Keith Tkachuk for a couple of weeks. Waddell said he began talks with Blues president John Davidson prior to last week's GM meetings.

The Blues, according to Waddell, wanted to wait and see where they'd be in the standings in the days leading up to Tuesday's deadline. During their early chats, the two sides discussed a number of different possibilities. Waddell said he informed the Blues he wasn't interested in trading prospects for a rental. He was more comfortable dealing draft picks.
