I knew there'd be a few contradictions to my Weekly 18 column on the
best shots of the year, and I was right. Let's get right to the complaints ...
Sorry I just have to disagree. Tiger's shot while significant, was not the shot of the year. Karrie's shot in the final round, final hole to force a playoff had to have been the shot of the year. Tiger's shot was in the second round and even though it was a major, it could not come close to the pressure shot of the 72nd hole of a major, especially from where Karrie had fallen in her career. -- Chris Watson
Obviously, I don't totally disagree with you -- wasn't like I had Webb's shot at No. 15 on the list or something. Though her shot may have been a bigger pressure shot since it came on the final hole of a major, Tiger's eagle signified a return to status. It was almost as if, with that one swing of the club, he was telling the world, "I'm back now, and better than ever." What that shot represented was bigger than anything, I'm afraid, that Webb could ever accomplish.
For what it's worth, as of the time I'm writing this, 2,884 ESPN.com users have voted for their shot of the year. Tiger's eagle has gotten 70 percent of the vote; Webb and Geoff Ogilvy each have 11 percent; and Paul Casey grabbed eight percent.
Jason, are you crazy with this list? Where in your opinion does Stephen Ames' 2nd shot into 11 at the Players or 2nd shot into 16 rank? -- Glenn
Ames had some great shots that day, but in my mind none stood out as being especially memorable. Hate to say it, but if his lead hadn't been so large, those approaches may have resonated more.
How can you omit Fuzzy Zoeller's hole-in-one at the Allianz Championship? That was the most amazing golf shot I've ever seen!
That shot was so amazing that ... I don't even remember seeing it. Fuzzy Zoeller played golf this year? Really? You sure that wasn't 1978? I'm kidding, but really, I had a bunch of holes-in-one on the list already and, quite honestly, that one didn't stand out in my mind.
