LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- If not for breeding, there would be no Breeders' Cup. And then where could people find eight Grade 1s on the same day to bet on? In fact, if not for breeding, there would be no horses and then we'd be fired.
I'll say some of those same things Saturday as introduction to our tribute to breeding. We will not see horses breeding. That would be invasive. It's their private time, except there are men and women who stand around and watch. But that is their job.
We will tribute the process, and the result. In Lexington, you can sit in the grandstand at Keeneland and watch the next generation run in a field into the distance. Or, maybe we've just been watching old tired horses who were put out to pasture. But I'll hold on to the first image.
